New Order is an English post-punk and new wave band formed in 1980 in Salford, England. The band is composed of Bernard Sumner (vocals, guitar, keyboards). Peter Hooks plays bass, Stephen Morris is on drums. Gillian Gilbert handles keyboards and synthetizers. New Order emerged from the ashes of Joy Division. Joy Division was a critically acclaimed post punk-band. The band disbanded in 1980 following the death of its vocalist, Ian Curtis.

Throughout their career, New Order has released 10 studio albums and sold over 30 million records worldwide. The band is considered one of the most influential of the post-punk and new wave era, and has been cited as an inspiration by numerous subsequent artists.

The Early Years: 1980-1985

New Order’s early years were marked by experimentation and innovation.
